Following a transitional 2025 season, the Blazers baseball team aims to reach the MAC playoffs in 2026.
After a coaching staff change at the start of last season, the Blazers struggled to stay afloat, ending the season with a 12-28 record.
“The group was put into a tough situation last spring; we made a lot of mistakes as we were all learning each other,” coach Michael Victory, said.
With a full year as the head coach of the Blazers, Victory is confident his players can lead the team to success this season.
“We have a great group of leaders and returners who are ready for the challenge and have the young players prepared for the battles ahead,” Victory said. “Our expectation every year is to be in the playoffs and play the most important games of the year; this year will be no different.”
The Blazers have been working in the off-season to prepare, with individual coaching and practices throughout the fall season.
“Everybody has a chance to grow and improve in a teaching environment as opposed to how we were all thrown into the fire last spring,” Victory said.
The Blazers are aiming for success this season and to clinch the MAC playoffs for the second time in program history.
“I think success for the team is not just the idea of checking off boxes, but exceeding expectations to help us reach our goals of winning, but getting 1% better every day,” captain Ty Broughton said.
“As a group, we are more used to each other; they know my expectations, they’ve seen our strategies put into action, and we’ve grown as a group,” Victory said.
The Blazers are back in action at Frederick Community College on March 2, taking on New Jersey City University.
The team will play at FCC and Hagerstown this season as the college continues to work with the city on the construction of a Hood baseball field next year.
