Frederick has been many things to me — a mosaic of experiences that are both good and not so good. Overall, it’s a place I can truly call home, for now.

My journey has taken me to various corners of the United States, from the pristine, sun-kissed beaches of Hawaii to the charming neighborhoods of suburban Virginia, and now to the quaint small town of Frederick.

The seasons are delightfully unpredictable, swinging from the vibrant blossoms of spring to the crisp, colorful autumn leaves that blanket the streets. The sun rises with a golden warmth that sets the sky ablaze, then sinks into the horizon, leaving a tranquil twilight in its wake.

The residents of Frederick are a tapestry of warm and welcoming souls, each contributing to the town’s friendly atmosphere. Local restaurants exude a simplicity that feels like home-cooked comfort.

They offer everything from mouthwatering farm-to-table dishes to beloved cafes, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills the air. Meanwhile, high schools are alive with spirit, embracing traditions like homecoming and prom, where students gather to celebrate moments that linger in memories long after graduation.

In this vibrant community, I’ve found not just solitude but a sense of family, and the thrill of my first love, who holds a special place in my heart.

This town has embraced me, and as I navigate my path here, I feel a profound sense of belonging.

As a military kid, my life often begins a new chapter every two years. My journey in Frederick started at West Frederick Middle School, where I felt a mix of anticipation and apprehension.

The bustling halls were filled with new faces, offering opportunities for friendship and growth as I navigated the challenges of being part of a military family.

It’s in those middle school halls that I forged lifelong friendships, connecting with my best friends over the span of a decade.

I can still vividly recall the exhilaration as we hurried to the band room, our hearts racing with anticipation for the upcoming concert, instruments in hand, the sound of our laughter echoing off the walls.

The lunchroom was our haven, where we gathered around our favorite table, sharing stories and jokes that made us laugh so hard our sides ached and our voices carried through the air.

Like middle school, high school was a time when we formed deep connections over shared experiences.

We often found ourselves immersed in the challenging curriculum of Advanced Placement classes, tirelessly studying late into the night and preparing for exams together.

As graduation approached, our conversations shifted to the excitement and anxiety of selecting the right college, weighing factors such as academic programs, campus culture and future career goals.

These moments of collaboration and decision-making brought us even closer, solidifying our bond as we navigated the emotional roller coaster of this pivotal life stage.

Now, navigating the complexities of college life, I’ve come to realize those years shaped me in profound ways.

The bonds we created in that bustling middle school environment laid the foundation for the resilience and camaraderie I carry with me today.

Thank you, Frederick, for teaching me many valuable lessons and for fostering lifelong friendships along the way.
