The future of the Arabic program at Hood College is uncertain after two professors from the Department of Global Languages & Cultures left over the winter break.
The provost announced on Dec. 29 that Didier Course and Donald Wright would no longer be teaching at Hood College, effective Dec. 31.
Following their departure, the Board of Trustees has been tasked with deciding whether to continue the Arabic program. They will decide on the program at their meeting in March, interim Provost Paige Eager said.
Meanwhile, Youssef Yakoub, an assistant professor of Communication Arts, is teaching Arabic 102 and 202 this semester. Yakoub is from Egypt and has taught Arabic at other institutions.
Eager said that “Cultures of the Middle East” was the only course canceled due to these adjustments.
Eager also said that no student’s degree was negatively impacted because of these changes.
