A team from Middle States Commission on Higher Education spent three days on campus as part of the college’s periodic reaccreditation review.
The visit was part of the process assures Hood is fulfilling the standards needed to remain accredited.
“We’ve been preparing for this moment for 2.5 years, and today is really the day,” President Debbie Ricker told faculty and staff who gathered to hear team’s findings. “This has been an intensive process, and it invites us not only to assess where we are, but to embrace where we need to go as a community.”
The team’s report must remain confidential until it is officially adopted by the Middle States Commission this summer.
More than 70 faculty, staff and administrators contributed to the self-study that focused on seven standards: mission and goals; ethics and integrity; student learning; student support; assessment; resources and governance.
Hood’s Board of Trustees reviewed the self-study in June 2025 and approved it in October 2025.
Calvin Troup, president of Geneva College, headed the team that visited the college from March 29 to April 1. The team left immediately after Troup delivered the report.
Hood plans to use the insights gained from the self-study to help develop its next strategic plan.
Ricker expressed appreciation for those involved in the report and committee visit: “We sincerely thank the committee members and everyone who spent so much time assembling the evidence and preparing for this review.”
Ricker said the achievement reflected a collective effort from the entire campus community. “Your work in developing self-study materials, assembling evidence, and engaging candidly with the visiting team reflects our shared commitment to excellence,” she said.
Ricker framed the review as both a milestone and an opportunity for growth. “We welcome this opportunity to learn, to evolve, and to become an even stronger community together,” she said.
