The Delaplaine School of Business at Hood College is excited to host the first Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition and Conference (EPCC@Hood) on Friday April 18. This event will bring together Hood students, recent alumni, and academics from the Mid-Atlantic region to showcase their business ideas.

The competition will feature teams of undergraduate and graduate students pitching their business ideas to a panel of judges, with $4,000 in awards and prizes at stake. Each team will have eight minutes to impress the judges, including a five minute presentation and a three minute Q&A session.

Alongside the competition, the conference will provide a collaborative platform for academic research, focusing on entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, innovation management and leadership.

“Entrepreneurial innovation is about new ideas in any field of study,” Hope Witmer, an associate professor of leadership and organization, said. “Innovation can be a new product, process, program, or sustainable idea that can improve society. Students from all majors are welcome to share  their ideas, receive input on ways to develop these ideas, and maybe even win some prize money.”

Joshi Mahesh, dean of the Delaplaine School of Business at Hood, said that in addition to the cash incentives, the competition is also a large part overall of business students’ experience at Hood. “From the application process to the selection of finaslists, a variety of skills will be sharpened.”

Mahesh stated that there will be a special judge on the panel.
