Hood College baseball team has hit the mid-way point of its season, with the best start in program history.

The Blazers held an overall record of 10-11 and 5-1 in the MAC Commonwealth conference and sat at No. 2 in the conference rankings. They swept Stevenson University for the first time in program history.

“We take everything day by day, you can never get too high, can never get too low,” coach Michael Victory said. “We trust our process, our approach and our guys, so we will tackle the next challenge when we get into it,”

The team is composed of 12 seniors, but many first-year and sophomore players have made big plays.

“I think a name that is easy to pick out right now is Rhett Robins,” Victory said. “He had some up and down moments to start the year, but has really come on strong when we needed him in conference play.”

Victory added that Kamarai Chisolm has been a standout first-year player. “He embodies how we want to play the game and has done it with a fearless mindset,”  he said.

Chisolm leads the team with 20 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. First baseman and outfielder Robins leads in batting average with a .356% and 26 hits.

The Blazers were swept by Messiah University this weekend, dropping them to No. 5 in the conference rankings.

“A D3 runner-up on your conference schedule is something you can’t ignore, but I think it feeds right into the warrior mentality we always talk about as a team,” junior pitcher Skylar Albright said. “I think this is a group of guys who want it bad enough, and worked hard enough to get here, that anything can happen.”

The Blazers look to climb back up the MAC rankings during the rest of conference play.

“Consistent work, good game plans led by our elite coaching staff and being led by our seniors will be all we need to make this season something to never forget,” Chisolm said.
