A message from the SGA President to the class of 2018

Class of 2018

My name is Tim Hulyk, and I am a senior here at Hood. I will be serving as president of the Student Government Association for the upcoming school year. On behalf of the returning students, I would like to welcome you into the Hood community.

I’m sure there have been a wide range of emotions building up as your first college semester approaches. Between classes starting, making new friends, and being away from your families for the first time, the first few months at Hood can be both exciting but also a little overwhelming. And while transitioning to life here and settling into a routine might take a little bit of time, it is my hope that each of you will eventually think of Hood as your new home.

One thing I encourage you to do to make this transition easier is to get involved in our campus organizations! There will be a campus activities fair in the first week or two of classes where you will get a chance to see the large number of diverse organizations we have for you to join. This is a great way to start branching out and make connections with returning students who can become friends and mentors to you during your time here.

There will also be plenty of events taking place that would benefit greatly from your participation! On September 26th, there will be a march around Frederick to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passing of the Civil Rights Act and serve as a tribute to the historic march on Washington D.C.. It would be great to see as many students take part as possible to show what this historical piece of legislature means to the Hood community. The Campus Activities Board will also be putting on all kinds of events and programs to help provide a fun break from studying, like karaoke and showing movies in Hodson auditorium!

Above all else, make sure you enjoy yourselves while you’re here. The next four years go by faster than you think, and it will be over before you know it – trust me.

Best,

Tim
