The first phase of a $10.8 million renovation of Brodbeck Hall is underway and expected to be completed by fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Crews are installing new windows and doors, upgrading the roof and cupola and adding an ADA-compliant ramp and entry vestibule. The second phase will focus on the interior of the historic building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brodbeck Hall has been closed since September 2021, when a lightning strike on the building’s cupola caused a fire that damaged the upper stories and led to extensive water damage throughout the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Funding will come from a combination of insurance coverage and donor contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The renovated building will feature an accessible entry and elevator, additional restrooms, a restored concert hall and stage and new areas for classrooms, practice rooms and offices. Plans also include improved HVAC and acoustics, catering space and a bride’s room for weddings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first floor will serve as a multipurpose event venue, with a green room and storage below. Upper floors will house offices, classrooms and practice spaces, expanding instruction areas that had been neglected due to accessibility limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBrodbeck Hall holds a special place in Hood\u2019s history, and these improvements will allow us to honor that legacy while preparing the space for future generations of students,\u201d said Laurie Ward, director of marketing and communications at Hood College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The college has contracted Waynesboro Construction for phase one of the project, which focuses on the exterior of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fundraising is underway for the second phase, which will modernize the building\u2019s interior while maintaining its historic integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
