The Whitaker Campus Center Gallery is featuring the work of artist Matthew McLaughlin through May 22. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibit, Spatial Relations, brings together mixed-media works from two series to explore how people define space on multiple levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It showcases 18 pieces that investigate both public and personal relationships, using intersecting media formats to create layered visual experiences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition highlights two major series: \u201cPlotting Truth\u201d and \u201cReflective Cartography.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plotting Truth explores narratives of truth and bias through the lens of constellation maps. One prominent image depicts a dragon\u2011like figure, serving as a political cartoon that symbolizes the historical patterns of human nature and consumption. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reflective Cartography serves as an outlet for emotional expression, capturing experiences such as stress and hope. The series visualizes contemporary culture through abstract imagery, expressive linework, and vibrant, dynamic shapes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
McLaughlin is a mixed media artist who teaches at the University of Maryland. He has curated for numerous national exhibition spaces, including the American University Museum in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
