The Hood College women\u2019s ice hockey team opened the 2025\u201326 season with two hard-fought games at Skate Frederick, falling 2\u20131 in a shootout on Nov. 7, and then dropping a 5\u20130 decision on the Nov. 8 rematch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team\u2019s opener against Arcadia University was tight from the start. After giving up the first goal, Hood battled back with scores from Renata Petrella, Sofie Ancona and Astrid Wilbur. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Petrella picked up an assist, while goalie Maggie Grijalva finished with 50 saves to keep the Blazers even through regulation and overtime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hood took a 3\u20132 lead midway through the third period when Petrella tipped in a shot from the point, but Arcadia answered late and forced the game into overtime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both teams traded chances in the 3-on-3 extra frame, and the Knights eventually edged Hood in the shootout, 2\u20131. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blazers came out looking for a split on Saturday, but Arcadia took control early with two quick goals in the first period and never let up, skating away with a 5\u20130 win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grijalva stopped 24 shots before giving way to Kamryn Sohner, who added 13 saves in relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the score, the Blazers\u2019 defense held firm for long stretches, and both goaltenders turned aside quality chances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
