The Hood College field hockey team ended its season Wednesday night with a 4-1 loss to top-seeded Stevenson University in the MAC Tournament semifinals. The defeat capped the most successful season in program history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hood reached the postseason for the first time, marking a major milestone for a program that has shown steady improvement in recent years. The Blazers finished 8-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play, their highest conference win total since 2001. The team also posted its third straight season with eight or more victories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stevenson, ranked nationally and playing on its home field, took control early and built a lead that Hood could not overcome. The Blazers scored once in the second half and continued to compete until the final whistle, showing the progress they have made as a team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hood\u2019s goal reflected a season of growth and stronger play across all areas of the field. The Blazers improved defensively, showed better ball movement through the midfield, and received consistent performances in goal that kept them competitive in most games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior Morgan Hackett said the team\u2019s success this season was years in the making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis team had a vision of playoffs my freshman year and we took every step to fulfill it,\u201d Hackett said. \u201cWe all were on board, supported each other and bought in. None of us could have done it without each other, and I\u2019m so proud to have set the future for this program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earning a postseason spot was a significant achievement for a program that has worked to establish itself in the MAC. The Blazers entered the tournament looking to extend their season but fell short against one of the conference\u2019s top teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although the result ended Hood\u2019s playoff run, the season showed the program\u2019s continued development. The team proved it could compete with the conference\u2019s best, setting a higher standard for future years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blazers will lose several seniors but return a strong core of players next season. With three consecutive promising\u00a0seasons and their first playoff appearance, Hood has built a foundation to build on moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
