Graduation is approaching, which means seniors will have the opportunity to show their families around the Frederick area. Here are just a few things to do: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Il Porto Restaurant, 200 S. Market St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
II Porto Restaurant is a well-regarded restaurant in downtown Frederick that the whole family will enjoy. The restaurant offers fresh Italian cuisine at a reasonable price and an is only a five-minute drive or 30 minute walk from Hood\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. Weinberg Center for the Arts, 20 W. Patrick St<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Weinberg Center for the Arts is a grand hub for the performing arts in Frederick. The Weinberg hosts theater, classic movies, concerts and dance ensembles year-round. Now it also offers free backstage tours for those interested in theater work and theatrical lore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Baker Park<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 58-acre park a few blocks from campus features a lake, biking and jogging paths, playgrounds and pavilions for picnics and cookouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. Carroll Creek Park<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Located in the middle of downtown Frederick, Carroll Creek Park is home to public art, water fountains, live music, various restaurants and a distillery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
5. Maryland Iron Festival, 12610 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, MD 21788<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Seventh Annual Maryland Iron Festival will take place graduation weekend. The event will feature blacksmithing, casting, and molding with expert smiths from Hopewell Furnace. Attendees can see the iconic Iron Pour of 3000 degree molten iron, listen to live music, and shop around the artist market, throw cannonballs, and lift anvils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6. Snallygaster Festival – 7628 Coblentz Road, Middletown, MD 21769<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An event for artists and fantasy enthusiasts alike, the Snallygaster Festival is a day-long event on May 17 where those interested can go and see art, hike trails, look for Bigfoot, explore an enchanted garden and shop for vintage artifacts and crafts. The Phoe,nix Hollow chapter of Amtgard, and nationwide live-action role play (LARP) organization will be present to teach festivalgoers to fight the Snallygaster if they see one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
