The Hood College field hockey team has won two straight MAC Conference games, their first MAC wins ever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blazers defeated Albright University on Oct. 23 by a score of 2-1 and on Oct. 19, the team defeated Eastern University 3-1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In that game, the bleachers were crowded, the music was blaring and the team’s energy was high. The Blazers knew that their first victory in the conference was around the corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blazers started the All Hood All Blue game strong with two first-quarter goals. Senior Phebe Frost and junior Abby Chiavetta netted one each with sophomore Madeline Moreno and junior Morgan Hackett assisting on the plays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eastern shot the ball nine times in the first half, with senior Hood goalie Richana Brown not allowing a goal, giving the Blazers a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coming out of halftime, the Blazers netted another goal by junior Morgan Hackett with freshman Emma Massey assisting on the goal. The Blazers led 3-0 going into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eastern scored in the last minutes of the game, but it was too little too late for the Eagles, who now find themselves at 0-3 and dead last in the MAC Conference standings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brown said she has been waiting for this moment for her entire four-year career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are so many words I want to use to describe how I feel but if I could choose one it would be proud,\u201d Brown said. \u201cWe have been working towards this goal of winning a conference game since I got here as a freshman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Junior Abby Chiavetta couldn\u2019t have been more excited after her first experience winning a conference game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe feeling of winning our first MAC conference game is a whole different level of excitement,\u201d Chiavetta said. \u201cBeing able to break an 18-year drought with your best friends by your side is an experience that you cannot describe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is so important to Hood College field hockey because we have been looked down on, brushed off, and ignored as a program for far too long by the other MAC teams,\u201d Brown said. \u201cThis is their wake-up call to be scared of us when we step on the field.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blazers aren\u2019t done yet as they look to carry this momentum into their home stretch of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe can take this win and continue this momentum throughout conference by continuing to show up for each other every day and for every game bring more conference wins over the next couple of weeks,\u201d Chiavetta said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe best thing we can do to continue this momentum forward for the rest of conference is learn from our mistakes, stay hungry, and play as a family,\u201d Brown added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis has been a long time coming and now that it\u2019s accomplished, we are hungry for more,\u201d Chiavetta said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team got its wish Wednesday in its victory against Albright. Freshman Bianca Scally and sophomore Madeline Moreno scored the Blazers goals in that game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
