Senior goalkeeper Richana Brown is the backbone of the Blazers women’s field hockey team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brown currently sits third among Hood College goalies with 404 career saves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The senior from Dover, Delaware, is entering her final eligibility season with goals of climbing up the Hood record books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over her career, Brown has accumulated a .750 save percentage which ties for fifth in Blazer history. She is also the first in field hockey history to be named to the All-MAC (Middle Atlantic Conference) Second Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The senior goalkeeper has appeared in 54 games for the Blazers and is 14-31 in the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has not always been easy-going in Brown\u2019s career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entering her freshman season, Brown was the only goalie on the team. Brown felt immense pain in both her hips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the early stage of her college career, Brown only participated in the games and never practiced because the pain was too high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ultimately, Brown tore both her labrums on each side of her hip, injuries that required surgery and kept her out for six months at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFinally, after entering my senior season, I am tear-free,\u201d Brown said. \u201cI truthfully believe all the setbacks I’ve encountered have made me the strong player I am today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Out of all Brown’s accomplishments on the field, her best memory comes off the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPlaying knockout with the team and collapsing under the hoop from laughing so hard had to be my favorite memory,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brown is a biology major and plans to attend physician assistant school after graduating in the spring. She wants to leave a legacy of hard work and determination as she concludes her Hood playing career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPut 100% behind anything you do because it’s better to try and fail than to fail without even trying,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blazers and Brown want to end up on top of the standings in the 2024 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBelieve in each other and yourself,\u201d Brown said. \u201cDig deep. Everything comes from within. You have that dog in you, and you just have to find it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
