The Spring Fest and Crab Feast are set to kick off on April 26, with the meal taking place in the dining hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and games and activities taking place on the quad from noon to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Campus Activities\u2019 executive board plans and funds Spring Fest and Crab Feast each year. \u201cCAB works hard to make the event fun for all students and tries to ensure there is something for everyone, \u201d Christine Marconi, the director of Student Engagement and Orientation, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Activities for students include the Kona Ice truck, mechanical bull, inflatables, yard games, henna tattoos, mini golf, a dunk tank and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEveryone is welcome at Spring Fest,\u201d Alba Montiel, CAB executive said. \u201cStudents\u2019 families and friends as well as faculty and staff are invited to enjoy the activities on the Quad and the feast in the dining hall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To pull off the event, CAB relies on volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Spring Fest couldn’t happen without a group of amazing co-sponsors and volunteers,\u201d Marconi said. \u201cThis year, the office of wellness is co-sponsoring Kona Ice and volunteers from CAB and residence life help with logistics on the day of the event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also said that the dunk tank volunteers consist of Hood students and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before the festivities of the Spring Fest kick-off, there is the Crab Feast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John Bragel, the director of dining services, said the feast\u2019s purpose is to meld with the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cost of entry for the Crab Feast is a meal swipe for students. Students can use their guest swipe for a plus one. Faculty and staff can attend using their staff swipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bragel said the staff treats the feast like a normal lunch, with the addition of paper table mats and wooden mallets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marconi said, \u201cIn addition to crabs, there will be a variety of sides offered, including shrimp, chicken, corn, green beans, salad and more.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The feast is open to students, and they have the option to bring a plus one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStudents do have guest meals on their card, so they\u2019re welcome to use the guest meal for any friends or family that want to come in,\u201d Bragel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commuters without meal plans are encouraged to partake in the Crab Feast at no extra expense, Marconi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For faculty and staff, they would treat the feast like a normal meal plan payment or swipe with their credit card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The menu includes one main menu with vegetarian and vegan options for those with dietary restrictions and\/or allergies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAny time there\u2019s a big event, we always have fun,\u201d Bragel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are other opportunities for students to connect with peers on campus before the semester is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCAB is hosting a Bingo night for Whit Wednesday on April 24 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. before the festivities of Spring Fest on Friday,\u201d Montiel said. \u201cWe are excited to bring back De-Stress Massages on May 7 for students to relax before we head into the season of final exams.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
