Welcome to a new feature of the Blue and Grey, \u201cFaculty Spotlight,\u201d where the paper interviews a professor to introduce to the student body to get to know more about.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The first faculty member that we will be spotlighting is Evelyn Nieves, the assistant professor from the Department of Nursing. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Nieves came to Hood College with a PhD from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, a master\u2019s from Walden University and her diploma in nursing from the Northeastern Hospital at Temple University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to be a nurse,\u201d Nieves said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At a young age, Nieves experienced first-hand the impact nurses have on a patient. Losing a family member and friend changed her outlook when she saw how the nurse impacted them. \u201cI always felt I was either treating my best friend or father,\u201d Nieves said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nieves said she discovered her position looking at the Hood website. \u201cI chose Hood because of the opportunities to grow as a professional, along with contributing to a diverse community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said he enjoys Hood\u2019s diverse student population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said she would like to see the nursing program grow to be the best in the area. \u201cA program that others want to emulate, a program that excels in producing excellent nurses that will impact not only Maryland but maybe the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nieves, teaches adult health, pathophysiology\/pharmacology and leadership and management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHood College is small but mighty, and I’m glad to be part of it,\u201d Nieves said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
