{"id":6069,"date":"2023-04-18T13:29:16","date_gmt":"2023-04-18T17:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hoodcomstudies.com\/theblueandgrey\/?p=6069"},"modified":"2023-04-18T13:29:20","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T17:29:20","slug":"sam-driscoll-breaks-hood-golf-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblueandgrey.com\/index.php\/2023\/04\/18\/sam-driscoll-breaks-hood-golf-record\/","title":{"rendered":"Sam Driscoll breaks Hood golf record"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Cristian Reyna\/\/<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Hood College golf player broke a Hood record at the Cardinal Spring Classic on March 25 and 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Graduate assistant and Hood alumnus Sam Driscoll set the new individual record for a 36-hole by shooting 148 in two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe first day, I felt pretty solid about it and I tried really hard, grinded all day,\u201d Driscoll said. \u201cI didn\u2019t have my best stuff&nbsp;<a><\/a>out&nbsp;there, but I realized that and I worked on&nbsp;<a><\/a>a&nbsp;few things&nbsp;<a><\/a>in&nbsp;my basement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conditions at Blackrock &nbsp;Golf Course in Hagerstown weren\u2019t the best on the first day and it delayed the event for two hours before they could finally tee off.&nbsp; \u201cIt was lift clean and played everywhere so we were able to clean off our ball and resume play after every shot,\u201d Driscoll said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were able to kind of take advantage of that just because of the softer conditions we could be really aggressive going straight toward the hole,\u201d Driscoll said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Driscoll shot 75 on the first day of the classic and followed it up with a 73 the next day. With a plus 4 par he tied two others for 12th place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s tough sometimes to back yourself up with an even better score, but I was able to do that with even tougher conditions,\u201d Driscoll said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Driscoll credits his time as a baseball player when he was young for improving his hand-eye coordination and says he picked up golf easily. He says he became serious about the game a year or two after he started playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That passion carried through high school where he was a four-year starter at Walkersville High School in Frederick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Driscoll said he models his game after pro golfer Phil Mickelson who is known as a field player.
