The Hodson Gallery in the Tatem Arts Center became packed last week with students and faculty supporting three artists from the senior art exhibitions.<\/p>\n
The artwork for this portion of the senior art exhibit include \u201cLaced Up,\u201d by senior Arpie A. Avanessi, \u201cEschatology,\u201d by senior Shannon Sullivan, and \u201cLove Story,\u201d by Lindsay Washington.<\/p>\n
In attendance at the gallery opening, Hood President Ron Volpe said, \u201cI am very impressed by the dedication\u2026talent, and imagination of these Hood students.\u00a0 The artwork is very well executed.\u00a0 Everyone is here to support these students.\u201d<\/p>\n
The gallery opening ran from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and included a discussion with the three students artists about the artwork presented.<\/p>\n
Avanessi presented a collection of clay and mixed media sculptures \u201cLaced-Up.\u201d Each piece resembles varying corsets, which identifies with modern femininity and gender constructs.<\/p>\n
Sullivan implemented bright colors to create varying themes in her collection of pastel and ink compositions.<\/p>\n
In particular, her composition titled \u201cDuck and Cover\u201d features currentU.S.president Barack Obama crouching under a desk similar to Cold War precautions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted the piece to represent the past and current fears that people face,\u201d said Sullivan.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuck and Cover\u201d resonated highly with President Volpe, who said, \u201cThis piece brings back memories of hiding under my school desk when we had the drills. \u201c<\/p>\n
Washington presented \u201cLove Story,\u201d a series of photos that tell the story of two people falling in love.<\/p>\n
The exhibit will run until April 1, after which other senior art collections will be featured in the gallery.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really enjoyed the art exhibit.\u00a0 All of the artwork is really creative and interesting,\u201d said Hood junior Nilsa Gonzalez.<\/p>\n
