Hood College will present a free performance of the one-woman show “Good Actors” on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11 in the Tatem Arts Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe show is feminist, funny, and sexy,\u201d said Aaron Angello, a professor of English and theater at Hood. \u201cIn it, Sommer talks explicitly about sex and sexuality, but that\u2019s just a part of it. The show\u2019s about an hour long, and it\u2019s smart and a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGood Actors\u201d is based on the poetry collection of the same name by the award-winning poet, writer, curator, and artist Sommer Browning. Both written and performed by Browning, the show is an exploration of the beauty and impossibility of being human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Angello directed the play and believes it will be an engaging performance that defies genres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think people should come see \u2018Good Actors\u2019 because it\u2019s a fascinating meeting of poetry and theater,\u201d Angello said. \u201cSommer Browning, the author and performer, is an award-winning poet with several books published to great acclaim. She and I thought we would try to recreate the experience of reading the book live, on stage.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The show also ponders philosophical topics such as the transition between art and life and the disparity between roles, performances and real life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Angello, Browning is especially engaging because of her background in standup. She has performed all over the country in standup comedy groups and in theaters with GASP, a poetry theater group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe\u2019s brilliant and talented, but also very down to earth. She\u2019s a good friend of mine, and an absolute joy to work with,\u201d Angello said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The show made its debut at the Tucson Fringe Festival Jan. 19-21 and is traveling across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
