About one in every 250 births results in identical twins but looking at Hood College\u2019s athletic teams, the occurrence doesn\u2019t seem so rare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three sets of identical twins currently play on various Hood sports teams and even more came to the school without their other half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mason and Evan Wang are using their extra year of eligibility from COVID-19 and are currently fifth year seniors dominating the men\u2019s basketball court. Sydney and Savannah Thomas are seniors on the women\u2019s lacrosse team and Olivia and Hannah Sobchak are enjoying their first year on the field hockey team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy sister and I always knew we would go to the same college; we\u2019ve always had the same interests and have done almost everything together,\u201d Sydney Thomas said. \u201cPlaying lacrosse with my sister has been a unique experience, the transition from high school to college level sports can be challenging and it is nice to have someone close to you, do it with you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While having three sets of identical twins on three different teams is already wild, women\u2019s soccer has three sets of twins all on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior Meghan Moir has an identical twin, Stephanie, who attends Mansfield University, but both girls are in their senior year playing soccer for their respective schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe honestly didn\u2019t plan it either way, if we went to the same school or not it didn\u2019t matter, we just wanted to go wherever made us the happiest and it happened to be two different schools,\u201d Moir said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior Shea Jakubowksi, also on the women\u2019s soccer team, has a twin sister, Alexandra, who doesn\u2019t attend Hood or play a college sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last but not least on the soccer team twin train is Junior Courtney Ellis. She has a fraternal twin brother named Brad. Fraternal twins occur more commonly than identical twins. Senior Jess Lyons on the women\u2019s lacrosse team also has a fraternal twin brother named Parker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While twins have always been considered rare and an anomaly, Hood has sure gathered up a bunch, and to top it off, all are student athletes. There\u2019s something special about getting to play the sport you love with your other half and these athletes have gotten to for their years here at Hood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
