The Latinx-based club on campus, La Comunidad, has resumed club events after a year of no in-person meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
La Comunidad hosted its first event during the start of Hispanic Heritage month to get the campus more involved in the club and the Hispanic culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur first event was a hit,\u201d said Jennifer Rivera, the public relations representative of the club. \u201cWe had loter\u00eda night and we had over 40 people RSVP and show up to play.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main goal of the club is to celebrate diversity and encourage students of all races and ethnicities to want to learn more about the Latinx culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou do not have to be Hispanic or Latinx to join La Comunidad,\u201d Rivera said. \u201cWe welcome everyone to join.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The club meets every Tuesday evening to discuss a variety of different topics that revolve around Hispanic culture and current events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStudents come to learn more about the Latinx culture and different countries which is our goal and it\u2019s a welcome space for everyone,\u201d said Ashley Arevalo, a club member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In order to get more student involvement, La Comunidad plans to host a number of events on campus throughout Hispanic Heritage month and the rest of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will be hosting events like the Fiesta which will take place on Sept. 30 from 4-6 p.m. in the Whitaker Campus Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
La Comunidad will also host a celebration for the end of Hispanic Heritage month on Oct. 15 in the Whitaker Commons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
