Former Hood College student and lacrosse player Walter DeBruin died on Sept. 6 from an acute asthma attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DeBruin last attended Hood in spring 2020, according to an email sent by President Andrea Chapdelaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students are mourning the loss of DeBruin as he had a lot of influence on the Hood Community and the men\u2019s lacrosse team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hard on our class. He was one of us and even though he didn\u2019t come back we were all still close with him,\u201d sophomore Kevin Clohosey said. \u201cIt definitely had a big impact and it sucks to see someone so young go that early.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hood alumnus Scott Kiewe said, \u201cHe was an awesome guy. He lit up a room and was always positive. He was a great teammate and a great friend. He will truly be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Men\u2019s lacrosse coach Brad Barber spoke about DeBruin and his passion for lacrosse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe was a very talented player who had a bright future in the sport,\u201d Barber said. \u201cWalter will be missed by many.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPlease keep Walter\u2019s family, his parents David DeBruin and Paula Costello, his siblings Will, Jack and Elizabeth, as well as his friends, former teammates and coaches, in your thoughts,\u201d Chapdelaine said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
