YMCA Santa Run to start the Holidays

By Charles Baynum//

Looking to add a little jingle to this holiday season? Join the YMCA of Frederick County on Dec. 13 for the annual Santa Run 5K/10K and 1-Mile Elf Run/Walk at Monocacy Village Park.

The family-friendly event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, invites runners, walkers, and festive spirits of all ages to kick off the holidays with a burst of energy.

For those who prefer to celebrate remotely, the YMCA is again offering a virtual option, open from Friday, Dec. 12 at 8 a.m. through Sunday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. Those online can walk on treadmills or watch participants in the event.

Registration ranges from $10 to $35 at bit.ly/YMCA-SantaRun.

The race was created to promote family-centered fitness in Frederick and surrounding communities, but it also serves a deeper purpose.

Proceeds benefit the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, supporting programs for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease, including Pedaling for Parkinson’s and Rock Steady Boxing- both proven to improve mobility, balance, and quality of life.

Holiday costumes are highly encouraged. Past events have featured Santas, elves, reindeer, snowmen, and even the occasional Christmas tree jogging down the trail. Families often bring pets dressed in festive gear, turning the morning into a moving holiday parade.

Whether participants choose to dash, jog, or stroll, the event promises a morning full of cheer, costumes, and community.
