Hood Baseball in Focus

By Charles Baynum//

The Hood College baseball team is preparing for a season filled with uncertainty as the college has not yet determined where the Blazers will play their home games in 2026.

What began with optimism surrounding a possible new home field has turned into months of confusion and shifting plans.

The college had previously discussed Westside Regional Park as a long-term solution, but that idea seems to have faded from the conversation for now.

In the meantime, Hood expects to continue using Frederick Community College’s field and other available sites. There has been no consistent home venue finalized.

“It sounds like we will be bouncing around locations this season,” Matthew Gelhard, Hood’s assistant director of athletics for communications, said. “There will be more away games, less of a standard contract with FCC, and more based on availability. Westside is currently still quite a ways away from being a day-to-day facility for the team.”

The situation has created a complicated stretch for the program, with scheduling and logistics shifting as the season approaches.

For now, Hood baseball waits for clarity on where the team will take the field and hopes for stability in seasons to come.
