The Latinx Student Union hosted a fiesta in front of Coblentz Hall on Sept. 30 to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.
The event was open to the public and drew a large crowd of students, families, and members of the Frederick community.
The celebration featured salsa and bachata music, group dance lessons, and food, creating a lively atmosphere on campus.
Organizers said events like these promote inclusivity and cultural awareness while highlighting the Latinx community at Hood.
“I loved the event. I feel we should have more of these activities throughout the year,” said Mathias Mendoza, a Hood sophomore. “I enjoyed it most when everyone started dancing without fear.”
Mendoza also noted the food and crowd as highlights. “I also loved the food, but I think a little more would be nice next time because of the number of students who attended,” he said. “Overall, I loved it and feel it was the best event so far.”
The Latinx Student Union was established to enhance the visibility of Latinx communities and share Latinx culture throughout Hood College.
