Campus Safety is investigating the reason why two windows in the Beneficial-Hodson Library were broken on separate occasions in the past several weeks.

Director and Chief of Campus Safety Thurmond Maynard said one window on the first floor and the other on the second floor were found to have “spider cracks” although photos of the first-floor window show it was shattered.

After reviewing the security camera footage, Maynard said that there was no way to verify if someone was intentionally trying to damage the windows. There were also no signs of forced entry at the scene, he said.

Maynard speculated that strong winds swept up the rocks and hurled them into the windows.

“You know, with wind and force and whatnot, if [a rock] was heavy enough, it wouldn’t take much to shatter a window,” Maynard said.

These incidents were not reported to the Frederick Police Department because there was no evidence of criminal activity, he said.

The window on the second floor has been repaired, but the one on the first floor remains shattered as of press time.
