As the Hood College class of 2025 prepares to graduate, senior class president Isabella Dipietrantonio said she is hoping seniors will enjoy their last days together.
“Community is just important, and while we have a lot of ways to be in a community at Hood, I was just hopeful that we can bring together different people through the umbrella of the senior class and kind of meet the needs of everyone the best we can,” she said. “We want to create new events that we hope continue to be traditions that leave a lasting impact and legacy.”
Dipietrantonio has been planning Senior Week activities, including a new event, Senior Sunset, which will take place on the evening of baccalaureate on May 16 at the athletic fields.
“It’s going to be a time to gather all of our families and friends and out on the quad and then go over to the athletic fields and watch the sunset,” Dipietrantonio said.
Dipietantonio has been active on campus since she was a freshman. She competed on the Hood College women’s cross country team and excelled in her sustainability studies major. She received the Biology Faculty Award in 2024.
She has also been active with BlazerBloom, a new sustainability team that participated in a competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. “I’m really interested in how environmental issues impact communities,” Depietrantonio said.
While she has participated in numerous activities, she says her role as class president stands out.
Diepietrantonio coordinated with faculty and the administration to organize key senior events, including the baccalaureate ceremony, which offers seniors time to reflect and celebrate.
“We don’t wear our chords or our caps, but we wear our gowns and our dinks and it’s kind of like back to convocation,” Dipietrantonio said. “Baccalaureate is more of an intimate service to honor and celebrate the class. , there’s a portion of it to pass the light to the next class. The senior class president passes the light and the candle to the next class president, which is a special part.”
The baccalaureate ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 16, at 1 p.m.
Beyond event planning, Dipietrantonio played a pivotal role in selecting the commencement speaker for this upcoming graduation. She and the class council chose Dr. Tamelyn Tucker-Worgs to speak due to her connection with the students.
“We are happy to have Dr. Tucker-Worgs as our commencement speaker,” Dipietrantonio said. “That’s another accomplishment of starting new traditions. We have never had a person within the Hood community be our speaker. We had a nomination process and then came to a decision within our committee. We feel Dr. Tucker-Worgs really connects with us and I think she is a very thoughtful person and has been so supportive of people on this campus.”
