The Mosaic Space is a new gathering area in Room 220 at Whitaker Campus Center designed to give students a space to connect, engage in discussions or participate in various club events.
The space is available for students to reserve for all student clubs and organizations throughout the day.
The space has become very popular, and students are engaging and coming up with more creative ideas to use the space, according to Taylor Gist, associate director of Residence Life Gist.
“As we work across the hall from it, I step out and see someone studying in there, eating, hanging out, and I enjoy how all the furniture can be moved to whatever desire the students have,” Gist said. “They may create an actual conference table, which looks to be more of an official club meeting.”
Students are also not just using the space for club events or programs, but they are using the space to hang out and enjoy their time on campus.
“I walked by, and people are eating with the lights out and watching a movie,” Gist said. “It has, without any sort of explanation, students using it and really embracing this idea of this being a direct space for them to use for whatever purpose they want.”
The Mosaic Space can be reserved through Pergola Connect for all current students. “The only time somebody wouldn’t have access to it is if it’s booked for a student event, and as I understand on campus, if there is a student event, all students can go, and it’s an open-door policy,” Gist said.
Students have been adding colorful decorations to the space as well. One of the currently displayed decorations is for Women’s International History Month.
Gist said: “They have been adding decorations since the beginning of the month. I saw students last week during spring actually adding more decorations to it, so they came to campus on their free time to keep adding to the space.”
