Political science professor Tamelyn Tucker-Worgs has been selected as the Hood College 2025 commencement speaker.

“Typically, we look for someone who can provide that encouragement and inspiration, from their own experiences; someone who is accomplished in their field, who embodies Hood’s values and is a respected leader,” said Laurie Ward, executive director of marketing and communications at Hood.

Tucker-Worgs is chair of the political science department. Her research focuses on race and politics and public policy.

Tucker-Worgs was chosen by the senior class to be the commencement speaker. “The class council came to the decision of Dr. Tucker-Worgs based on feedback from students and our sense of who would be meaningful in this moment of time,” class president Isabella DiPietrantonio said. “We found it important to choose someone who relates to us and understands us as students and people.”

DiPietrantonio said Tucker-Worgs has created a safe space for students through her involvement on campus. Along with this, DiPietrantonio said that Tucker-Worgs has a “unique persepective and closeness“ to the lives of the graduates due to her having a daughter their age.

Commencement will take place on May 17 inside Woodsboro Bank Arena in the Volpe Athletic Center.
