Hood College’s women’s softball team, led by head coach, Terry Burdette, is gearing up for the 2025 season.

After having a record of 14-24 last season, the team has set a clear goal to make the playoffs this season.

The Blazers are welcoming back six seniors, including two exceptional All-Conference players, Jocelyn Pfleiger and Rebecca Gottlieb, who played a crucial role in the team’s success last season.

Hood is welcomes nine freshmen to the roster, joining the experienced team. This influx of new talent has fostered a highly competitive atmosphere, with players battling for playing time.

Coach Burdette said that most of the freshmen are anticipated to make significant contributions throughout the season, enhancing the depth and versatility of the lineup.

The team has established a clear goal for the season: to secure a top-four finish in the MAC and earn a spot in the postseason tournament.

To achieve this, the Blazers must navigate a challenging schedule, which includes key early-season games. The start of conference play will be especially demanding, as Hood faces doubleheaders against two of MAC’s strongest programs —  Stevenson University on March 25 and defending conference champion Eastern University on April 12.

“There are a lot of good teams and a lot of good coaches in this conference,” Burdette said.

These early matchups will serve as a crucial test for the Blazers and could significantly impact their postseason success.
