The Hood College men’s baseball team is set to embark on a new chapter under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Michael Victory.

Recently moving from North Carolina, Victory brings a fresh perspective to the program and is eager to make his mark on the Hood College community.

Victory may be new to the role, but he is well-acquainted with the area and is enthusiastic about this opportunity. “I’m excited to take on this position and develop a strong relationship with my team,” Victory said.

With the record of 23-17 last season the Blazers look to keep that momentum going into the 2025 season.

Victory said his main objectives for the season include pursuing the playoffs and cultivating a winning culture within the program.

Key matchups against Messiah University and York College will be crucial for determining their chances of making the postseason. These games will serve as significant tests for Victory’s team as they aim to assert themselves as contenders.

Senior James Gruenfelder is determined to secure a consistent role in the lineup and hopes the team can reach the playoffs this season.

Reflecting on the upcoming season, Gruenfelder commented on the changes within the program. “A lot has changed since last year, and I believe it’s for the better,” he said. “We graduated several big-time players, but I am confident that our current group understands what it takes to win. With a new coaching staff and many young players, I believe we can make a significant impact both in the lineup and on the mound this year.”

With a mix of returning talent and new additions, the Blazers aim to be competitive in the conference and aim for the playoffs this season.

This is expected to be the team’s last year playing at Frederick Community College’s. The college had considered developing a baseball field at  Max Kehne Memorial Park in Frederick, but but decided against that after resident complaints.
