The Hood College men’s lacrosse team is preparing for its upcoming spring season with head coach Brad Barber expressing confidence in his returning offensive lineup.
With experienced players and fresh talent, the Blazers are aiming to end their four-year playoff drought.
Earlier this month, the team split a pair of scrimmages, winning 10-7 against Franklin and Marshall College and losing 9-8 to Lebanon Valley College.
A key change this season is the addition of a new offensive coordinator, Max Davis, and graduate assistant, Brandon Wasitowski. Their arrival brings a renewed focus on strategy and execution. “I’m most excited about being able to coach a great group of returning offensive seniors and grad students,” Davis said.
Despite losing several seniors on defense, Barber remains optimistic about this season’s starters.
“We lost some guys from last year, but I’m excited about the players stepping up into those roles,” Barber said. The team also added a defensive transfer from Bridgewater College, Brennan McKeown, who was an All-ODAC selection his freshman and sophomore years.
Several players are expected to make a difference, including senior defender Brendan Smith. Senior Robbie Wiley and senior Riordan Muldoon will provide leadership to the team. While junior standouts, Connor Wakefeild-Folk and Nino Rizzolino, are anticipated to play key roles on and off the field.
“My goals are to make the playoffs and be nominated as Midfielder of the year,” Wiley said.
The Blazers have marked key matchups against Messiah University, Widener University, and Eastern University as crucial games for their playoff chances.
With renewed energy, coaching additions, and a talented roster, Barber is optimistic about making a postseason run. “I’m tired of being on the outside looking in,” he said.
