Exams, research papers, holiday plans and FAFSA?
That is right. It is time to file your 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Yes, you need to complete your FAFSA for each year you attend school. Filing your FAFSA does more than just collect data; it allows the school to prepare your financial aid offer for the next academic year. You should apply even if you are not sure of your plans for next year. For some scholarships, especially Maryland State Grants, the date you complete your FAFSA will determine if your grant renews for the coming academic year.
Preparing to file your FAFSA:
When the new FAFSA is launched, around Dec. 1, the following information will be necessary:
— Student FSA ID and password
— Student 2023 Federal Tax Return
— Contributor name and email address (correct spelling is imperative) for their invitation
— Contributor FSA ID and password
— Contributor 2023 Federal Tax Return
While the 2024-25 FAFSA launch experienced a few bumps, the Department of Education has only made a few changes, and administrators have been “live testing” the new application. This means students should experience fewer difficulties. The FAFSA Simplification Act of 2020 aimed to deliver an easier application process. Students should finally realize the benefits of the updated edits.
The winter break is a terrific opportunity to work side by side with your contributor to complete the FAFSA. However, if you need personalized assistance, individual appointments can be made in the Office of Financial Aid.
FAFSA completion events will be scheduled during the spring 2024 semester for students requiring help.
