Every athlete who competes in a sport has an end goal of fighting for the championship trophy.
Hood College fall teams contend for four playoff spots every season.
Throughout the years, the Blazers have struggled to attain that goal, losing MAC conference games at an alarming rate.
Women’s soccer has three wins in the conference since they last made it to the MAC playoffs in 2022. There, the team lost to Widener, 4-3, in a penalty shootout.
Women’s volleyball has eight wins in the conference since last making it to the MAC playoffs in 2015. Similar to women’s soccer, volleyball also lost to Widener, this time by a score of 3-0.
Women’s field hockey has two wins in the conference since making a playoff push in 2006. The team was a part of the Atlantic Women’s College Conference and was defeated by the College of Notre Dame 2-1 in overtime. The Blazers field hockey have yet to make a MAC conference playoff appearance.
Men’s soccer has eight wins in the conference since making a playoff push in 2016. The Blazers lost to Arcadia University in penalty kicks, 4-3.
Since 2021, women’s swim has accumulated 11 wins, its highest MAC playoff finish has been ninth. Every team makes the swim playoffs.
Similarly, men’s swim has also accumulated 11 wins with its best playoff performance coming in 2023, where the Blazers finished in sixth.
Men’s soccer ranked seventh this season and were second in goals allowed, giving up 37 goals on the year, while only scoring 25.
Field hockey ranked seventh as well in the MAC conference despite earning its first MAC conference win ever. The Blazers gave up 37 goals and scored 33 which was second least in the conference.
Women’s volleyball ranked second to last in their conference play, only totaling 916 kills which ranks last in their conference as well.
The Blazers look forward to the winter season, as basketball and women’s ice hockey take place.
