US News and World Report has named Hood College the best value school in Maryland
The college was ranked 60th out of 171 of the best schools in the Regional Universities North category. It ranked 61st in social mobility.
Hood’s business, nursing and education majors were noted for distinction.
Since last year’s rankings, the school has seen an increase of 11 places in the social mobility category and a decrease of five in the best value category.
The rankings, while publicized in a press release on the Hood College website, are not necessarily used by students. Juniors Finn Scott-Daniels and Declan Sullivan said they did not know what the rankings were.
Neither Scott-Daniels nor Sullivan used the website to make a college decision despite the college decision tools the site offers. Sullivan did however look at other rankings for his college decision. “I looked at the rankings of colleges in Maryland,” Sullivan said.
Hood earned a 58 out of 100 in the US News overall score, which is considered slightly above average.
The rankings also included a report on the college that contained various data points on the school. The site listed the average student debt at graduation as $40,281 and the median salary six years after graduation as $48,415.
Additionally, the site includes diversity data and lists Hood as 52% White, 17% Black, 15% Hispanic and 3% Asian.
