The Campus Activities Board (CAB) plans to host various events this semester to encourage students to engage more on campus.

According to President Alba Reyes Montiel, CAB’s mission statement is “to promote campus engagement and programming through the collaboration and hosting of numerous inclusive events that will create a sense of belonging within our campus community and allow students to engage in fun breaks from academics.”

Perhaps CAB’s best-known activity is bingo, where students can win prizes such as flat-screen TVs, iPads, Air Pods, and more.

Members are always programming for Whit Wednesdays, with upcoming events including Kickback with CAB on Oct. 9, Casino Game Night on Oct. 23, and Murder Mystery Night on Oct. 30. There will also be an International Karaoke Night with cheesecake tasting on Nov. 20.

Students should mark their calendars and join CAB for their tailgates. There will be a tailgate on Oct. 18 for Basketball Madness, co-sponsored with SAAC (the Student Athlete Advisory Council), and another tailgate on Oct. 19 for the field hockey game. A tailgate for ice hockey is scheduled for Nov. 16.

Later in the semester, CAB may organize a trip to New York.

“As a first-year student, I wanted to get engaged on campus, and CAB provided a welcoming and fun environment for me to get involved easily,” Reyes Montiel said. “Soon after joining the organization, I became part of the executive team and expanded my leadership experience.”

Now she is the president and continues to enjoy the time she spends planning and organizing events for Hood students.

Currently, CAB is recruiting members for its first-year committee to help plan the Margaret Hood Ball, which will take place in the spring semester.
