Hood student-athlete wins Miss Frederick crown

Casey Chamberlin, a junior psychology major and volleyball player at Hood, is the new Miss Frederick.

Miss Frederick is a regional contest affiliated with the Miss America Scholarship Foundation.

To qualify for the pageant, contestants must live, work or go to school in Frederick County.

“I applied by registering with the Miss America Scholarship Program and the Miss Frederick Scholarship Program online,” Chamberlin said. “Then I submitted all of my paperwork along with my Community Service Initiative and Fact Sheet, or resume.”

Five women, ages 18 to 28, competed for the titles of Miss Frederick and Miss Central Maryland, while eight candidates in the teen division contended for the titles of Miss Frederick’s Teen and Miss Central Maryland’s Teen.

Chamberlin won a total of $4,250–$4,000 for the title of Miss Frederick, $150 as the overall talent winner and $100 for “Miss Personality.”

“Receiving the Miss Personality award was my favorite announcement, as this was voted on by my peers and I am truly touched that they voted for me,” Chamberlin said. “In addition to cash scholarships, there are many sponsors for Miss Frederick including the Sertoma Club of Greater Frederick, Stephanie Smith at Superior Spray Tan, Leah Mehl at Beauty Counter, Photography by Daysy, Modern Day Miss, 24-7 Dance Studio and more.”

Chamberlin has been competing in pageants since her senior year of high school, when she won Distinguished Young Women of New Hampshire in 2021.

She also competed in the Miss New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen program for four years.

However, the thrill of the competition still gives her jitters.

“I jumped up and down, even in my heels,” Chamberlin said. “I turned to one of the girls I met, Caroline, and she gave me a hug, and picked me up in all of the excitement; I was so happy to have her standing next to me as we became close friends [while] preparing for Miss Frederick.”

Chamberlin said she heavily advises anyone who’s considering pageantry to go for it.

“Whether you win or not, you will gain valuable experience that will help you enhance all your future goals whether that be obtaining scholarship dollars, improving your interview skills, making and building connections, and, of course, making lifelong friends,” she said. “I would not be where I am today without the Miss America Opportunity, and I encourage everyone to get involved.”

She said she will put the scholarship money towards her future education and the opportunity to compete at Miss Maryland in June.
