Joe Alexander, a senior from Leesburg, Virginia., studying integrated marketing and communications, was awarded the MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week for his eight-inning performance against Stevenson University on March 15.
On the mound, the right-hander pitcher, had 12 strikeouts, breaking the Hood College single-game strikeout record. He also only allowed one walk and one earned run on five hits during the game.
Alexander also held the previous record of 11 strikeouts in a season, which he set in 2022, against Albright College.
“To prepare for games, I go over the scouting report for whoever we are playing,” Alexander said. “I use it to plan out how I want to pitch to the opposing team’s best hitters.”
Alexander is currently 4-0 in games he has pitched, leading the team in wins so far this season. Alexander is tied for second, with a pitcher from Alvernia, in the MAC Commonwealth for total wins. He holds a 1.98 earn run average, which puts him third in the MAC Commonwealth
“Getting pitcher of the week was cool, but I am more worried about trying to win a MAC championship,” he said. “We have a great team this year and I just want to contribute in any way I can.”
The team was 13-9 overall and 4-5 in conference as of April 2.
