Hood College women’s golf team broke its own school record Saturday, Sept. 17, just one week after setting it.

The team played in the Cardinal Fall Classic tournament where the five players who participated combined to shoot a 685 through 36 holes and a 341 after 18 holes. Mary Emma Guldi led the way for the team by breaking two school records that she already held. She finished with a 78 after 18 holes and a 162 following the completion of 36 holes, finishing 14th overall on the weekend.

Sarah Gribble, Katie Driscoll and Julia Shelby all set personal records as well over the weekend en route to a fourth-place team finish in the tournament.

“I think we all came into the match with high expectations, as last weekend we had already broken the school record and it was just our first match of the season,” Driscoll said.

“We were excited to go out there and try to outdo ourselves and break the record again this past weekend.”

Driscoll, who is a junior, is entering her third year in the program and credits head coach Thomas Chatfield for a large chunk of the team’s success.

“We can attribute a lot of our success to Coach Thomas for bringing in new people and giving us the resources we need to make this possible,” Driscoll said.  “Also, I know that our team has been practicing hard in both practices and workouts to make solid progress on the course.”
