Hood’s Rotaract Club will help with the kids’ table during this year’s Oktoberfest to showcase that Oktoberfest isn’t just for adults.

Oktoberfest will be held at the Frederick Fairgrounds Sept. 29 and Sept. 30 and offer music, food and German-themed crafts as well as beer.

Rotaract, which is affiliated with Rotary International, works to improve communities, said club president Travis Moulton, a Hood sophomore.

At the kids’ table, youngsters will be able to make paper crafts including alpine hats, German hearts and masks, Moulton said.

“This year, we are just trying to create a very fun time for the children,” Moulton said. “You know sometimes they [feel thrown] into this random event and we’re hoping to create [a] space for both adults and children.”

Oktoberfest is just one way Rotaract helps the community. Moulton said the club is also helping clean up Carroll Creek.

Moulton encourages other students to join the club, which has been recruiting members through emails and flyers posted throughout the campus.

“There are a lot of moving parts that I’m still trying to wrap my head around because it’s a huge thing, but I feel like if you’re really interested in participating within the community, start by joining a club,” Moulton said.
