With the release of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” the fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has begun.

The Presidents’ Day Weekend release had more attention than anticipated and brought in nearly $120 million in North America and just over $241 million worldwide.

This film was a typical Marvel film that contained the usual comedy and action, and while I did leave the theater entertained, it was nowhere near as much fun as the previous titles in the three-film Ant-Man series.

In the movie when the characters enter the sub-atomic world dubbed the “Quantum Realm,” the video effects and computer-generated images were disappointing. The world had a very generic orange tint, and nothing seemed to stick out and catch my attention.

In addition to this, in certain parts of the film, it felt like the shots were either over-edited or altered in other ways to possibly save time and money.

Marvel debuted two comic book antagonists making their first appearances in the Marvel Universe–Kang the Conqueror and MODOK, which stands for Machine Organism Designed Only for Killing.

While exciting to see both villains make their appearance, one was slightly more disappointing than the other. While the script stayed true to the comics for Kang, longtime fans found themselves scratching their head at MODOK as he was more of a comedic addition to the film and didn’t really live up to his name.

This film being the first of phase five, it set up the coming movies and antagonist, Kang the Conqueror, for the coming Avengers movie. This was confirmed at the 2022 Comic-Con by Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige.
