The Hood College men’s baseball team began its season on February 18.

After the 2022 season, the team sat at 12-27 overall and picked up four wins against Eastern University, Albright College, and Widener University in a very competitive conference.

The team’s first game of the season was against Central Pennsylvania College and won both games, giving the team a 2-0 record to start the season. In-conference games begin on March 10 against Albright College at Frederick Community College Baseball Field.

During its spring training, the team has been taking advantage of an indoor hitting facility where players were able to get more reps in and out of practice times.

In the 2022-23 school year, the team has dominated both on and off the diamond. In the fall semester of 2022, the team had 26 students achieve a grade point average of above 3.0 and accumulated 450 hours of community service, head coach Michael Impellittiere said.

Additionally, the team scrimmaged Montgomery Community College in the fall, splitting the two games played.

This spring, the team has named five captains: senior Scott Ash and juniors Ty Schwarzman, Stephen Sommer, Jacob Saylor, and Joe Monteleone.

Impellittiere also brought in 15 first-year athletes to help add depth from the class that had graduated last year.

“We learned from our failed season and will use last year for our determination in ’23” Impellittiere said.

This season, the Blazers have their eyes set on winning a MAC championship, he said.
