Hood’s annual Midnight Madness took place in the Volpe Athletic Center Arena on Monday, Oct. 17.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams were introduced and celebrated in preparation for their upcoming seasons beginning in November

The first 300 students in attendance were given a special “Midnight Madness” T-shirt as well as finger lights for when the event started and the lights dimmed.

This year the rosters were introduced by Brice Moore, a disc jockey and Hood basketball alumnus.

After both teams were introduced, each team held a four-minute-long, Harlem Globetrotters-esque inter-squad scrimmage showcasing the teams and individual talent.

Following this, the competitions commenced with knockout, a 3-point competition, Connect 4, tug-of-war, a dunk competition and the doughnut eating competition. The winners of each event took home Blazer Bucks.

Many other athletic teams competed Monday night as well. The competitions kicked off with tug-of-war. The men’s lacrosse and the baseball team were called up, each team sent out 15 players to the rope, and the men’s lacrosse team came out on top. To close out tug-of-war, the men’s volleyball team faced ROTC and had the longest battle of the night, with volleyball nearly beating ROTC.

After the tug-of-war competition, contestants were called from the crowd for knockout, the 3-point competition and Connect 4. Kate Haufe, a member of the field hockey team, won the knockout competition. Cristian Reyna competed in both the 3-point competition and Krispy Kreme doughnut eating competition and took first in both. And finally, Trinity Cover and John Knight won in the Connect 4 competition.

As Midnight Madness neared its end, the contestants of the final competition, the half-court shot, came to center court, with a chance to take home a 43-inch Amazon Fire TV.
