Movie Review: Halloween Ends

By Braden Weinel//

The new Halloween movie released on Oct. 14 puts an end to the series as well as an end to my high expectations.

“Halloween Ends” was a disappointing watch.

The main reason my expectations were shattered was because the prequel to this movie, “Halloween Kills,” had exceeded my expectations.

The film is the third installment of the rebooted horror movie series “Halloween.” The series follows main character Laurie Strode and her battle with deranged serial killer Michael Myers.

More specifically, the movie focusses on a new character, Corey Cunningham, and his relationship with Laurie Strode’s granddaughter, Allyson. Corey is a good kid with a dark past and he fights to not get dragged to the side of evil and murder.

The movie was unfortunately lifeless (literally and figuratively). The first half of the movie was so slow, I forgot I was even watching a horror film. The famous symbol of evil, Michael Myers, didn’t even make an appearance until 50 minutes into the movie.

It felt as if the producers were trying to fit a new plot into the already existing story of the series, almost as if two separate movies were meshed into one.

“Halloween Ends” seemed to be more of a psychotic, messed-up love story than a fight between good and evil.

Toward the end, the more basic horror components were revealed. The film showed lots of blood, gore and violence, but I was expecting that to be present throughout the whole movie, not just the last half hour.

There were also very few jump scares and thriller moments in the film. I had anticipated being on the edge of my seat, but instead I noticed myself dozing off.

The cinematography was good, but it was nothing special. There were a few cool scenes that intrigued me, including one of Michael Myers and Corey Cunningham working together in a double homicide.

The movie strayed too far from the traditional plot of Michael Myers versus the town of Haddonfield, and it wasn’t even scary.

I had high expectations for this movie and was let down. Overall, I rate this movie a 3/10.
