First-year men’s soccer player Cam Simpler scored his first two career goals in Hood’s on-the-road win against Neuman College on Sept. 3.
Simpler netted the game-tying goal at the 56-minute mark of the game and then scored the game-winning goal three minutes later.
“It felt really good to help the team win,” Simpler said. “Knowing the game was over and the job was done was the best part of the game.”
Simpler’s standout game helped the Blazers to start their season with back-to-back wins.
“Early on, this season has been going well. Compared to other seasons, our record is just about in the same place, but at practice the team is feeling good and prepared for a strong season,” said head coach Kyle Bulgarelli.
Simpler hails from Middletown, Delaware, where he played at Appoquinimink High School and won a state championship in 2020. He led the team in scoring and was named an All-Conference player.
With Simpler’s two goals, he leads the Blazers in goals scored. He has played in all six of Hood’s games and started in five.
Since the away victory against Neuman, the team’s record has dropped to 2-3-2. Despite the team’s record there are still high hopes for the Blazers.
“We have a lot of potential. It is going to be a very exciting season,” Simpler said.
The team enters conference play Oct. 1 at home against Alvernia University. The team’s conference record is what counts when it comes to earning a playoff spot.
“As a brand-new coach, I am really excited for each game. Our conference games always have a special edge to them,” Bulgarelli said.
