The Great Frederick Fair returns to wrap up the summer

The Great Frederick Fair returns Friday, Sept. 16, for its 160th year.

The fair opens at 5 p.m. Friday and will run until Sept. 24. Admission for those 11 and over is $10 but “Jack Passes” are available for $30, which is good for one admission and one carnival ride wristband on any one day. This must be purchased before the first Friday. Parking is not included with admission.

Sept. 19, 20 and 21 are senior citizen days and for those 65 or older admission is free from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fair food for free September 19-22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sept. 21 is also Military Appreciation Day, when military personnel are admitted free (with valid military ID) until 6 p.m.

Sept. 23 is Fair Friday. Those 18 and under will be admitted for free until 5 p.m. For $5 off, use code WFRE.

There will be a ton of new and exciting things this year and free entertainment all day, every day, including the Duck Races, Tic Tac Toe, Grain Bin Basketball and finally, the great Corn Bin.

The majority of events will be on the weekends but there will be the traditional hot dog pig races, a magic show, a cowboy circus, and a comedy show Monday, Sept. 19, through Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The featured concerts this year will be Chris Tomlin on Sept. 16, Clay Walker on Sept. 17 and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts on Sept. 18. Special guests include Jon Reddick and Kylie Frey.

The demolition derbies will be on Sept. 20 and the Sept. 21. The tractor pull will be on Sept. 19.

For those 21 and older, there will be 12 featured distilleries and breweries. Dragon Distillery, McClintock Distilling, Idiom Brewing Company and Linganore Wineries are some of the companies that will be represented.

If one truly wants to ground themselves in Frederick, one can buy a brick. Their name will be imprinted into brick, which will be laid into the foundation of this Great fair, forever remembered.
