After two successful productions last semester, the theater program is back this semester with two new shows.
Students are rehearsing “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” a comedy by Alan Bull, and the creator of “True Blood.” The show centers on five bridesmaids who all have a history with the same guy and end up hanging out in the bedroom of the sister of the bride.
Show dates are March 3, 4 and 5, with night performances on each day and a matinee show on March 5.
The second production is Kate Hamill’s adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic, “Little Women.” Rehearsals will begin once the first play has concluded.
Hood Theatre had hoped to produce a play called “Baltimore,” after an attempt to make it last semester was unsuccessful. The piece is about a resident assistant (RA) who deals with racial incidents on her floor. However, the roles are very specific racially and couldn’t quite be filled, although tons of students came out to audition. It’s been placed on the back burner again.
The theater program is headed by Aaron Angello, who has been putting on multiple productions since fall 2021.
“One of the things I want to do is have more options for students. I see my job as creating opportunities for students to do stuff,” Angello said.
Everyone is welcomed to participate in the program, whether it’s a role for acting or assisting with stage crew. Angello, also coordinates a Shakespeare festival during the summer. It is not produced by Hood College but is located on campus. If students are interested in being involved in any productions, they can contact him at angello@hood.edu.
