It’s already that time again. The stress of finding enough credits and signing up for classes is just around the corner.
But which classes are the right ones to choose? If you are struggling to find another class or two to fill your schedule, there are a handful of new classes being offered next semester.
Young Adult Literature is a new course that will be taught by Heather Mitchell-Buck. If you want to study your favorite books like “The Hunger Games,” this class is for you. More specifically, this course is about young adult novels, their impact on culture and why they appeal to both teens and adults.
Registrar Ashley Anderson oversees course scheduling and student registration. Almost every year classes are added.
“The department creates a course syllabus and submits a new course proposal form to the curriculum committee,” Anderson said. “The committee is comprised of department heads and other administrative staff members who review the request and make a decision based on the information provided.”
There’s a new honors course called American Popular Music Since 1950, which is being taught by Noel Verzosa. This course focuses on different genres of music that were influential in the 1950’s, such as jazz, rock n’ roll and indie music. There is no requirement to have prior knowledge of music theory to take this course.
Also added to the course list for the spring semester are classes Quantum Computing taught by Daniel Sierra-Sosa, Global Media with Elizabeth Atwood and a psychology course called Advanced Personality Psychology with Jessica McManus.
If you have any ideas for a new class or there is something you are interested in learning that isn’t already offered as a course, give your professors a suggestion or two. Maybe they will be inspired to create a syllabus and run it by the curriculum committee.
