The Downtown Frederick Partnership will be holding family-friendly Halloween-themed activities on Oct. 30.

The main events of the day will be Trick or Treating at several businesses downtown from 10 a.m. to noon, a vintage car show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a showing of “Hocus Pocus” at the Amphitheater in Baker Park starting around 6 p.m.

While Trick or Treating is going on, there will also be a photo booth at 30 N. Market St. and a pumpkin decorating booth at 33 E. Patrick St.

The Mid-Maryland Vintage Volkswagen Club will be displaying their cars at Everedy Square & Shab Row. Some of the cars will be dressed up in costume and treats will be given out.

Frederick County Public Libraries and The C. Burr Artz Trust organized the showing of “Hocus Pocus.” People are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on and to dress warmly.

Promotion and Events Manager for Downtown Frederick Partnership Jade Dunhour said that they are anticipating a crowd like that of 2019. The partnership, however, does not track attendance for events.

Cody Marwine is the owner of The Perfect Truffle, located at 25 N. Market St. Marwine and employees will be handing out candy, stickers and toys to kids that are trick or treating. The chocolate shop also has different Halloween-themed candy that are shaped into things like skulls and pumpkins.

Marwine is looking forward to a lively environment being created downtown and “seeing the community back out again” after changes caused by the pandemic.

I Made This Pottery Studio employee and Hood student Dorian Young will be handing out candy and information about the business to trick or treaters and their families.

Young has been working at the pottery studio for four years and has been participating in Trick or Treating since she began working at I Made This. “My favorite part [of the event] is seeing all the kids dressed up,” Young said.

Dunhour strongly suggests that people bring masks to wear since some businesses have mask requirements inside. Masks are not required outside but “may still be a good idea since it’s likely to be in close proximity to lots of folks,” Dunhour said.

There is no cost for Trick or Treating, photo booth, pumpkin decorating, the car show and the showing of “Hocus Pocus.” More information about the event can be found on the Downtown Frederick Partnership website at https://downtownfrederick.org.
