Hood College welcomed over 300 first-year students this year, the largest class in the school’s history.
About 70% of the students are from Maryland, and at least two students each are from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, West Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, D.C., Minnesota and New Hampshire, according to Vice President for Enrollment Management Bill Brown.
The rest of the students are from seven other states and five other countries.
Brown also said there are 17 new legacy students, meaning their parents are Hood graduates, and there are four students that have parents working on campus.
Approximately 63% of the first-year students are female, according to Brown. This is consistent with the average over the last six years, with an average of 63.1 of female students.
“This class includes lots of actors/actresses and performers, two state winners of the Distinguished Young Women title and another from a county in Maryland, 4H award winners, equestrian competitors, gymnastic teachers, ski instructors, a member of a competitive show choir,” Brown said.
Brown said that this large class showed interest in almost every major offered at Hood, with business and nursing being the most common. There are also several students who were born outside of the United States in countries including Guyana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador and Germany.
The class of 2025 “is a great group of students,” Brown said.
